Perth Renovations Company is proud to say we are members of the Master Builders Association of Western Australia. Also called MBAWA, the organisation has been a driving force in the Western Australian construction industry since 1898.

The term Master Builder is known by many but is understood by few. It is not a title you can pin on yourself. Professionals in the construction industry must earn the right to be known as a Master Builder.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A MEMBER

A member of the building industry who is an accredited professional with a high level of skills and knowledge. Their work must be to the highest standards, and the individual must work within the perimeters of the Master Builders Association (MBA) Code of Conduct.

WHAT ARE THE BEHAVIOURS OUTLINED BY THE MBA CODE OF CONDUCT?

The Master Builders Code lists seven required principles:

  1. Compliance with all local, state, regional, and federal laws as well as with all industry standards
  2. Conduct all dealings in the spirit of good faith and act honestly, responsibly, and with integrity
  3. Deal fairly with other industry workers as well as clients
  4. Enforce accountability for those not adhering to the code
  5. Avoid any practice that will lower building industry standards
  6. Promote an ethical, efficient, and competitive building industry
  7. Support building industry reform especially regarding the building of partnering relationships as opposed to adversarial relationships

Additionally, there are three practices that go against the association’s statutes:

  1. Anti-competitive pricing- Insisting goods and materials come from a specific third-party with non-industry prices
  2. Misleading conduct- Taking part in conversations or actions that are intentionally deceptive
  3. Resale price-fixing- Association members shall not take part in or fixing prices

WHO CAN APPLY TO BECOME A MASTER BUILDER?

Anyone engaged in the following professions may apply for accreditation as a Master Builder:

  • Builders
  • Subcontractors
  • Tradespeople
  • Consultants
  • Project Managers
  • Suppliers
  • Others who work in the building or construction industry

The MBAWA is the prevailing voice representing the building industry. As such, they operate under a strict code that members must adhere to in order to maintain good standing.

Among the numerous qualifications necessary to become a Master Builder, an applicant must:

  • Successfully complete the training and educational requirements of the association
  • Undertake and successfully complete any added accreditation deemed necessary by governing authorities
  • Maintain and consistently improve skills even after a builder receives their certificate
  • Continually demonstrate their skills and commitment to a strong work ethic
  • Adhere to the Master Builder’s Code of Ethics
